We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver

Find in catalogWe need to talk about Kevin is a fictional story written in the forms of a woman’s letter to her husband about their son Kevin, who we learn is responsible for a school massacre. The letters are written in a way that keeps the reader intertwined between the past, present, and future. We get to know bits and pieces and slowly put together this whole story that is so much more than that one day. It’s as captivating as it is terrifying and tragic. Such events allow us to see another side of people one that is rarely mentioned otherwise. The story is particular since the characters are rather unlikeable and just plain messed up, but it draws one in since it offers a look into a “how can this happen?” event that we all have this curiosity about in the interest of stopping future tragedies and understanding the human mind’s capacity for all the good and evil that’s in the world.
