Hey Natalie Jean by Natalie Holbrook

Find in catalogThis coffee table style book, culled from a blog, is full of “advice, musing and inspiration on marriage, motherhood, and style.” There were lots of pretty pictures, of the carefully styled, “I’m not styled” style, which can be both inspirational and annoying. Her prose does seem in some ways to bolster the “I’m not styled” truth, as she admits to washing her hair only once a week. But even then she also admits to pumping it full of product the other six days, so who knows. She’s kind of a mixed messages gal. But I did enjoy her style, and some of her stories, and her instructions on how to put on fake eyelashes, and her statement “Let it be useful, but above all let it be beautiful.” She talks about how living in a very small apartment, everything needs to do double duty as pretty and practical, and I find that good advice I would like to embody more. I also liked some of her stories about parenting in NYC, and in finding beauty in everyday things, and how to make a place/town/city your own.
