A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole

A Confederacy of DuncesI also picked this audiobook from the buzzfeed “books guaranteed to make you laugh out loud” list and was once again disappointed. Perhaps this book just wasn’t meant for me and for others it is Pulitzer Prize material. I found it more tragic than funny; it was horrible listening to this middle aged man be so egotistical and self-righteous. I could hardly stand how terribly degrading he was to everyone, including his own mother who did nothing but care and provide for him his whole life. The main character was more of a sanctimonious ass than I can handle. I understand that he ultimately committed suicide and that those are suicidal have demons long before but that didn’t mean that I needed to listen to what a horrible person he was to those around him.
