And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini

And the Mountains EchoedI have read both of Mr. Hosseini’s books, The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, and really immensely enjoyed both of them so I felt confident that this one would be a treasure as well. I am pleased to say that the quality of his writing holds for the newest edition to the literary world! His way of writing is truly beautiful, it has a sense of poetry to it, and while he writes of difficult times for people he is able to capture it with spirit and grace. It does tend to take your breath away.

This story centers on the heartbreaking disruption of a bond between siblings, in hard hit times for a small Afghan family. We see in this multigenerational novel how this event echoes through time affecting lives wide and far. By spanning time and distance we see the complexity of family relationships- how they love, honor, sacrifice, and live with and without one another. How one event can have such ripples throughout time never ceases to amaze me.
