Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher by Timothy Egan

Short Nights of the Shadow CatcherI thoroughly enjoyed reading this biography of Edward Curtis and how he dedicated much of his life to documenting the lives and languages of the American Indians in the early 20th century. If it had not been for the enormous sacrifice of this man, much of what we now know of the different tribes could have been lost forever. His work later helped different tribes reconnect with nearly forgotten traditions and languages. I was thrilled to learn that the University of Oregon library owns one of the few intact twenty-volume sets of The North American Indian, which took Curtis 30 years and much hardship to complete. I look forward to visiting the library on campus to see these important and rare books. I also look forward to reading more from this author. I recommend this book for anyone with an interest in our Native Americans or American history, in general.
