Palisades Park by Alan Brennert

palisadesAs the author says, “this novel is a love letter to a cherished part of [his] childhood.”  The book covers the period of 1922 through 1974 in the life of the Palisades Park amusement center in New Jersey.  The characters’ lives are reflections of both
a time gone by as well as the everyday dilemmas that are still timely in today’s world.  I grew to care about the characters, especially Eddie and his daughter Toni.  I was delighted to learn, at the end, that many of the secondary characters were actual people involved in the life of Palisades Park.
