Walking It Off: a veteran’s chronicle of war and wilderness by Doug Peacock

This effort follows Peacock’s acclaimed book, Grizzly Years. In it, he describes his process beyond following Grizzlies for dealing with the PTSD he suffered from his years as a Green Beret medic in Vietnam. We each deal with emotional trauma differently. Peacock walked. This book documents his multi-month journeys into wilderness: mountains, deserts, beaches – you name it. The walks never completely healed him, but they helped. Peacock is a master outdoorsman, and his descriptions of all that he saw along his sad but beautiful way are well worth the read.
