The Forgotten Garden: a novel by Kate Morton

In 1913, a very young girl arrives in Australia by ship, alone, with only a suitcase and book of fairy tales. She is adopted by a local family and has no memory of her previous life.  Eventually she begins the search to find out who she really is and the search leads back to Cornwall.  Nell dies before her questions are answered, but her granddaughter picks up the quest in the present day.  Excellent mystery with lots of historical details.
