A Walk in the Woods: rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson

I just finished graduate school and three years of reading academic texts and research and little else…and was looking for a book to make me feel “normal” again. I found this one and almost immediately started reading it aloud to my fiance and his daughter. I know a book is going to be a great read if, from the first paragraph, I want to share it with someone I care about. This is a great book for smart humor, fun characters, inspiration, and even history. All three of us learned about the beginnings of the Appalachian Trail from a brief bit in one of the chapters. Overall, this is an adventure revealing some of the diversity in environment and individuals in one region of the United States.
